The simple initial approach would be to simply adjust your touchpad configuration, perhaps tun your sensitivity down, especially if it moves that much simply from taking your finger off the pad. Go to System SettingsMouse and TouchPad drag the bar next to TouchPad cursor speed to the left to turn down. If the above option does not resolve the issue, see this link: which discusses several options for hardware configuration that you could explore. In reference to your issue, the section on Jumpy Touchpad and lack of middle button seems appropriate. Here is their suggestion: Try creating the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf with this content: Section 'InputClass' Identifier 'touchpad catchall' Driver 'synaptics' MatchIsTouchpad 'on' # This option is recommend on all Linux systems using evdev, but cannot be # enabled by default. See the following link for details: # MatchDevicePath '/dev/input/event.' Option 'FingerLow' '46' Option 'FingerHigh' '46' Option 'ClickFinger1' '1' Option 'ClickFinger2' '2' Option 'ClickFinger3' '3' Option 'TapButton1' '1' Option 'TapButton2' '2' Option 'TapButton3' '3' Option 'AreaBottomEdge' '85%' Option 'SoftButtonAreas' '60% 0 85% 0 40% 60% 85% 0' # Btn2 LRTB - Btn3 LRTB Option 'EmulateMidButtonTime' '75' EndSection You can play with the values at runtime using synclient.
Amended:. To create above file, from command line: cd /Desktop #changes your current directory to your Desktop for easy access touch 50-synaptics.conf #creates file named 50-synaptics.conf gedit 50-synaptics.conf #uses gedit(text editor) to open file. Add the listed content to the file using gedit, then save and exit. Make destination folder, from command line (#added line per comment from OP). Sudo mkdir /etc/x11/xorg.conf.d. To move file to appropriate folder, from command line sudo mv /Desktop/50-synaptics.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ #Moves file from Desktop to target folder. As for that problem on my Yoga 2 pro I had to type in bash xinput -list There you get a list of devices.
From there you can see the devices. We want to display the SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad proporties. Xinput -list-props 'SynPs/2 Synaptics Touchpad' from there I edited the 'finger' attribute up from 25 30 0 to 40 40 0 and that annoying last jump was gone. Xinput -set-prop 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad' 292 40 40 0 the 292 is the id in parenthesis next to the words 'Synaptics Finger' The following 3 numbers are 'FingerLow' -When finger pressure drops below this value, the driver counts it as a release. 'FingerHigh' - When finger pressure goes above this value, the driver counts it as a touch. 'FingerPress' - When finger pressure goes above this value, the driver counts it as a press. The docs for the rest of the settings are.
These answers have nothing to do with the question. There isn't a touchpad parameter for 'amount to jump around randomly'. Yes, most of us have tried changing the various sensitivities but that only changes how fast and how much pressure it takes.for the curse to jump around randomly. To be clear, we're talking about the fact that Ideapads under Linux, when you simply touch the pad and leave your finger at the touch point, the cursor starts jumping around on the screen. Decrease the sensitivity and it takes more pressure before it starts jumping around.
Laptop touchpad not working issue is troubling many Lenovo laptop users. Their laptop touchpad does not respond to their touches. If you are facing the same issue as they are, not to worry. Here are methods that can help you fix the problem: 1) Enable your touchpad; 2) Update or reinstall touchpad driver; 3) Contact Lenovo support.
None of these answers have anything to do with that. The bottom line is that IBM's taking over the hardware has MANY issues and seldom works right.
Ever had it mute itself whilst reporting full volume? Dim the screen whilst reporting full brightness? These are all things where the IBM drivers are intercepting commands 'to help you' with some 'value added feature'. Like most of those 'features', it doesn't work right and you can't turn it off. I have had some success cleaning under the space bar and alt key. It does this under Windoze as well and has been widely reported.
I've always known IBM laptops were prone to that. I've never seen it this bad though. Definitely my last IBM.
I have a new Lenovo IdeaPad 100S laptop with Windows 10 32-bit (as installed when new, not an upgrade from earlier Windows). It has a non-touch screen and a trackpad (not trackpoint) with 2 buttons. I am very frustrated that I cannot disable the 'select when hover' function when using the trackpad. I have searched on the net for solutions and have made sure 'double-click' is enabled, and that 'activate a window by hovering' is disabled.
I have seen suggestions to disable 'tap-to-click', but this is for a Synaptics driver. There is no 'tap-to-click' option for the Microsoft driver on my IdeaPad so I can't disable 'tap-to-click'. The mouse driver information is: Device: HID-compliant mouse Driver provider: Microsoft Driver date: Driver version: 10.0.105860.0 When I search for an updated driver, I get told the driver is up-to-date (which seems a bit strange for a driver that old). Please can someone advise how I can disable 'select when hover' under all circumstances on my Lenovo Ideapad. Hello Ron, Sorry for the delayed response. Did you re-install the synaptic drivers by visiting the manufacturer's website for your laptop model?
I would suggest you to completely uninstall the touchpad driver and reinstall it. Kindly follow the below given steps. Press “Windows key + X” and click on “Device Manager”. In the list of devices, you should see the touchpad drivers. Right click on the device and then select 'Uninstall'. In the uninstall dialog, make sure you select the option to delete the driver package from the system.
This causes the driver package installed earlier to be deleted. In the Action menu of Device manager, select “ Scan for Hardware changes” option. This will cause the device driver to be reinstalled. Once the driver is installed, close all windows and restart the computer.
Did you re-install the synaptic drivers by visiting the manufacturer's website for your laptop model? No, my model 100S-11IBY does not use Synaptic driver, it uses a Microsoft driver. There is no Synaptic driver for my model on the manufacturer's website.

The mouse driver information is: Device: HID-compliant mouse Driver provider: Microsoft Driver date: Driver version: 10.0.105860.0 By the way, in Device Manager, there is no touchpad driver, the only driver shown under 'Mice and pointing devices' is the one I posted above. It is the same driver that is used if I plug in a USB mouse.
I plugged in a USB mouse and uninstalled the touchpad driver. Then used the mouse to select 'scan for hardware changes'. The touchpad is working again. At the moment it appears that 'select on hover' is not operational.
Hopefully this will continue to be the case, but I've thought before that this had happened, but the problem came back again. Hello Ron, Thanks for the update. I suggest you to boot the Desktop system in Clean Boot and check if you are facing this same issue. By starting the computer in clean boot state you can find out which application or service is causing this issue. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. It starts Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. How to perform a Clean Boot in Windows: (The above link also applies to Windows 10.) Disclaimer: After troubleshooting, refer to this section 'How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting' in the above link.
I also own an 11 inch Lenovo IdeaPad 100s. It's a great little machine for its price and purpose, but there are a few annoyances. Whilst I appreciate that costs of supplied elements had to be kept low for the price to be competitive, this has gone too far in a few areas; notably, the touchpad.
Given their vast wealth, couldn't Microsoft issue an update for the touchpad driver, including options wanted by so many buyers? The one which I need is an option to enable/disable tapping. It would require only the addition of a few lines of code, a simple job for them and impossible for such as me. It seems to be such a basic need.
